Aussie duo link up with Shrews Women
Shrewsbury Town Women are delighted to announce the signings of Australian duo Marlah Monro and Abbie Lutton, who join the club ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Both Marlah and Abbie are arriving from Australia through a programme run by the Australian Women's national team - the Matildas - bringing exciting talent and fresh energy to the squad.
Marlah Monro, a goalkeeper, arrives from Box Hill United FC. Abbie, a defender, joins us from Sunshine Coast Fire FC.
We caught up with Marlah and Abbie on their move from Australia to the UK.
"I’ve found the move extremely easy with the community and the people I’ve been around,: Abbie said. "It’s a lot colder here, though; summer here feels like winter back home!"
Marlah started playing football at the age of seven in Victoria. A little later, she began traveling back and forth to Melbourne five times a week for training and games.
Marlah later moved to Melbourne, and she’s played in numerous National Youth Championships, travelled overseas and trained with Melbourne Victory FC's women’s team.
"Being a goalkeeper, I can express the way I play in a different manner than other positions," Marlah explained. "I like to showcase my composure with the ball at my feet and become an 11th man."
Abbie started taking football seriously at around the age of 11, travelling back and forth to compete in training and in games. She’s been to England recently for a football tournament.
Abbie said: "I'm a very calm player and composed at the back, I can read the game very well and I feel very versatile in most positions.
"I am most looking forward to working as hard as I possibly can to make sure our team has a chance at promotion.
"It’s a great opportunity for me to play senior football and develop not only as a player, but as a person as well. This season will be a good one."
Everyone at the club would like to welcome our Marlah and Abbie to the club, and we wish them the very best in blue and amber.
