Match Preview
Salop are back in Shropshire for the first of two back-to-back home games when they welcome Neil Harris’ Cambridge United this afternoon.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the game.
Key Players
Striker Elias Kachunga was a key player for Cambridge last season, but has been plagued by injury during the first few months of this campaign. The 33-year-old made his first full start for the U’s two weeks ago against Tranmere, but struggled to make an impact. However, he played a full 90 against Luton in the EFL Trophy this week and bagged a brace.
Shayne Lavery is a striker also arriving in good form, having scored twice in his last four appearances, including the opener in last week’s 3-1 win over Crawley.
One man who will need little introduction to Salop fans is Sullay Kaikai. The 30-year-old has missed Cambridge’s last two games, but Neil Harris has said he should be fit for today's encounter. Kaikai made 26 appearances for Town in the 2015/16 season, being instrumental in keeping us in League One during that year.
The Manager
Former Millwall manager Neil Harris is in his second spell as Cambridge manager. Harris took over the post from Mark Bonner in December 2023, overseeing just 14 games for the U's before returning to Millwall. Both Harris and Bonner returned to Cambridge in February, with Harris appointed as head coach and Bonner as director of football.
Form
Cambridge have been slowly climbing up the table after a mixed start to the season. The U's have won three, drawn two, and lost one of their last six. Their last two away games have ended in a draw, 1-1 and 0-0 with Grimsby and Tranmere, respectively. They currently sit 8th in the table on 18 points, three points from the automatic promotion spots.
Head-to-Head Record
Salop and Cambridge have gone head-to-head 41 times since our first encounter in 1973. We have won on 12 occasions, while today's visitors have won 18, and 11 games have ended in a draw.
