Match Preview
Salop will look to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat at Fleetwood by registering a fourth consecutive home win when they welcome Gillingham to the Croud Meadow.
Here’s everything you need to know about Gareth Ainsworth’s side ahead of the match.
Key Players
Experienced midfielder Bradley Dack has been Gillingham's main man in recent weeks. Dack has scored in the Gills' last two games, taking his total for the season up to five.
Former Newport loanee Seb Palmer-Houlden returned to the starting XI last weekend and is likely to lead the line at the Meadow. After a successful spell at Dundee, he has struggled to settle in down south, hitting the net just once for the Kent side.
Gillingham are a side with plenty of experience in their ranks. Centre-back Robbie McKenzie has proven himself to be a formidable League Two defender in recent years, while former Sunderland midfielder Jonny Williams has been a consistent presence in their team over the last two years.
The Manager
The Gills gaffer is a man who needs no introduction to Salop fans. Gareth Ainsworth will make his first appearance back in Shropshire after leaving us for the Kent side in March. Ainsworth oversaw 22 games for Salop, winning five, drawing five, and losing 12.
Saturday will be his 33rd game in charge of Gillingham. He took the club to a record 21-game unbeaten run but has struggled to regain that form since.
Form
Since losing their 21-game unbeaten run against Harrogate at the end of September, Gareth Ainsworth’s team have struggled to regain momentum. They arrive in Shropshire having won just one of their last seven league games, a tight 1-0 win away at Bristol Rovers.
They are currently seventh in the table on 27 points, five points off the league leaders Walsall, and only clear of eighth-place Crewe on goal difference.
Head-to-Head Record
We have had many memorable encounters with Saturday’s opponents over the years. In the 71 games we have played since 1951, we have won 26, lost 20, and drawn 25. Our biggest ever league win came against the Gills, a 7-0 thrashing handed out in September 2008.
