For the second time this month, Shrewsbury take on David Artell’s Grimsby Town.

Our last encounter with the Mariners was 20 days ago, ending in a 1-1 draw, with John Marquis cancelling out a Charles Vernam penalty.

Here’s everything you need to know about today's opponents.

Key Players

The Mariners have struggled for consistency in the first half of the season, with key players unable to get on the scoresheet over the last two months.

Charles Vernam has been one of Grimsby’s most potent attacking threats, with the 29-year-old grabbing six goals and six assists so far. However, the bulk of these came in the first two months of the season, with the only goal in his last 10 league appearances coming against us at the Meadow three weeks ago.

Likewise, Jaze Kabia has scored six goals across all competitions but has not hit the net in the league since their win against Cheltenham in September.

George McEachran can be a creative outlet for the Mariners in the middle of the park, but like the rest of the team, the former Swindon and Chelsea man hasn't quite delivered in recent weeks, with Monday’s host on a poor run of form.

The Manager

Former Salop loanee David Artell is Grimsby’s manager. Artell took charge of the Mariners in November 2023.

Before taking the job at Blundell Park, Artell spent five years as manager of Crewe, guiding the Alex to promotion from League Two in the 2019/20 season.

Form

After looking like potential promotion contenders in the opening weeks of the season, Grimsby’s form has nose-dived over the last 10 matches, with the Mariners picking up just seven points, which is a big drop-off from the 21 gained in the previous 12.

They are without a league win since October 18th, when they defeated nine-man Gillingham at Blundell Park 1-0. Since then, they have been winless in five at home.

Head-to-Head Record

Monday will be our 59th competitive encounter with the Mariners. They have the edge over us since our first clash back in 1959, winning 25 to our 17, with 16 matches ending in a draw.
