Match Preview
Salop are back on home soil this afternoon for a huge clash.
We welcome Simon Weaver’s Harrogate Town, who currently sit one place below us in the table.
Here’s everything you need to know about the visitors ahead of the crunch encounter.
Key Players
Harrogate have struggled in front of goal this season, scoring just 19 times in 25 league matches, the lowest tally in the league. Striker Tom Cursons will hope he has done enough to earn a spot in the starting XI at the Croud Meadow. The 24-year-old has scored in his last two appearances, including a 93rd-minute equaliser off the bench away at Crewe last Saturday.
Former Salop midfielder Bryn Morris has been one of the Sulphurites’ better players in what has been a tough season so far, with the 29-year-old adding some experience in the middle of the park.
There is plenty of experience elsewhere in the squad, with 36-year-old Jack Muldoon likely to lead the line. Muldoon scored the opener against us in September and has five goals in 19 appearances this season.
The Manager
Simon Weaver is the longest-reigning manager in the Football League, having managed the Suplhurites on over 800 occasions.
Since taking over at the club in May 2009, Weaver has taken them from the middle of the National League North up to League Two, achieving Football League status for the first time in 2020. The club is now in its sixth season at this level.
Form
After a steady opening month to the season, Harrogate’s form dipped drastically since the end of September. Their last victory came against Gillingham on September 27th, one week after they defeated us at home. This has resulted in the Sulphurites slipping into the relegation battle, with the team sitting one place and one point behind us in 23rd.
Head-to-Head Record
Saturday’s clash will be the first time we have welcomed Harrogate to Shropshire in a competitive league fixture. We have only faced The Sulphurites once in the league, and that was the 2-0 loss we suffered in September.
