Match Preview | Oldham Athletic

After back-to-back home wins, Salop are back on the road this weekend when we head to Boundary Park to take on Oldham Athletic.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Latics ahead of the match.

Key Players

On-loan striker and the manager’s son, Michael Mellon, will look to get back to goalscoring form after drawing a blank in his last two appearances. Mellon scored three in his first five games for the club and will hope to replicate his success in League Two from two seasons ago, when he scored 13 in 21 games for Morecambe.

The Latics have struggled for goals in recent weeks, with Micky Mellon’s team scoring just twice in their last four games and failing to score in their last two.

They will be without defender Will Sutton, with the 22-year-old receiving a straight red against Salford last weekend.

The Manager

Oldham’s manager is a man who needs no introduction to Salop fans. Micky Mellon guided us to promotion from League Two in the 2014/15 season, and was one of the most popular and successful Town managers in the club’s modern history.

Since leaving us in 2016, Mellon has found success elsewhere, guiding Tranmere to promotion from the National League in 2018 and repeating the feat with Oldham last season.

Form

Oldham have had a very mixed start to life back in the Football League. After failing to win any of their opening six games, they went on an unbeaten streak through September, winning three and drawing one. However, October has not been so kind, with the Latics losing two and drawing one of their last three. They currently sit 17th in the league on 15 points.

Head-to-Head Record

Our history with Oldham Athletic stretches back to the 1950s. Overall, we’ve recorded 26 wins, 19 losses, and 12 draws against the Latics. Our record has been particularly impressive over the past decade; we’ve won seven, drawn one, and lost two, winning all of our last five competitive encounters.
