Match Report
A brilliant brace from Callum Stewart saw Shrewsbury make it three wins from three in pre-season with victory at AFC Telford.
Salop made the short trip to take on their county rivals having already beaten and Stoke and Leamington in their last two outings.
And two excellent finishes from Stewart were enough to make it three from three at the New Bucks Head - with Dylan Allen-Hadley pulling a goal back for the hosts.
Team news:
Michael Appleton handed a valuable opportunity to five of Town's youngsters for the clash at the New Bucks Head.
Sticking with a 3-5-2 formation, Toby Savin started in goal with Joe Morris, Toto Nsiala and Karsten Cairns making up the back three.
Jack Loughran and George Nurse operated as wing-backs, while in midfield, Harrison Biggins sat alongside youngsters Isaac England and Will Gray.
Up front, George Lloyd was partnered by Callum Stewart.
Report:
Town opened the scoring at the New Bucks Head in the 17th minute with a wonderfully worked goal where both strikers showed their quality.
After breaking into the left channel, Lloyd whipped in an inviting cross.
And that delivery was met by Stewart who produced an outstanding header to guide the ball into the top corner.
In the 23rd minute, Town and Stewart had their second.
A flowing move ended with Nurse sending in a dangerous.
And Stewart collected it in his stride before drilling a low strike beyond keeper Brandon Hall and into the back of the net.
Town continued to be a threat from that point with Nurse and Loughran both bright on the wings.
And they went close again just past the half hour mark when Stewart hit the byline before flashing a delivery right across the face of the goal.
Sadly for Town, though, nobody was on hand to turn the ball home.
Shortly after, England played a clever ball to get Lloyd charging into the box.
He then sent in a ball that just had a little too much pace for the onrushing Stewart.
Town made a switch at the break with Reuben Falding replacing Loughran.
Then on the hour, there was a raft of changes with Sam Stubbs, Will Boyle, Luca Hoole, Taylor Perry, Sam Clucas, Mal Benning and John Marquis all entering the fray. Jack Loughran also returned.
Following the changes, Hoole and Gray combined well before a defender did well to stop Marquis turning the ball home.
But Telford went on to pull a goal back in the 72nd minute when Dylan Allen-Hadley raced into the box before firing home.
Town almost restored their two-goal cushion instantly.
Falding sent the ball into the box which Hoole did well to cushion into the path of Loughran.
And he lifted the ball up and over the keeper only for his effort to be hacked off the line by a defender.
With 10 minutes to go, Telford began throwing men forward in the hope of finding an equaliser.
Jimmy Armson took a free-kick that beat the wall only for a full-stretch Savin to parry the ball away.
The forward was then denied by the goalkeeper once again when he produced a really strong hand to cannon away a strike from just inside the box.
Shrewsbury Team: Savin, Morris (Stubbs 60), Toto (Boyle 60), Kairns (Hoole 60), Loughran (Falding 46), Nurse (Benning 60), Biggins (Clucas 60), Gray, England (Perry 60), Lloyd (Marquis), Stewart (Loughran 60).
