Shrewsbury Town fell to defeat at Harrogate.

Goals from Jack Muldoon and Conor McAleny won it for the hosts on Town's first ever visit to Wetherby Road.

Salop had some decent chances to open the scoring in Yorkshire with Taylor Perry and Will Boyle going close.

But two second-half strikes from Muldoon and McAleny won it for Simon Weaver's side.

Team news:

Boss Michael Appleton opted for a 3-4-1-2 formation for the trip to Wetherby Road with Elyh Harrison continuing in goal.

Will Boyle, Sam Stubbs and Tom Anderson made up the back three with Tom Sang and Sam Clucas at wing-back.

In central midfield, Taylor Perry was partnered by Isaac England with Tommy McDermott more advanced in the number 10 role.

Up front, Brad Ihionvien was joined by Ismeal Kabia.

Harrogate lined up in a 4-2-3-1 system with Jack Muldoon the central striker.

Ellis Taylor, Reece Smith and Stephen Duke-McKenna were the three in behind.

Report:

In what was a frantic opening 10 minutes, it was Town who created the game's first chance with Perry firing over from the edge of the box after good work from Ihionvien and Kabia.

Harrogate then came a whisker away from opening the scoring when Taylor's clever cross found Muldoon in the box.

What followed was then a huge goal-mouth scramble with Harrison, Boyle and the post combining to keep the ball out.

From that point on, the half proved open and entertaining with both sides playing some good football.

For Town, McDermott and Kabia saw shots blocked before Perry burst into the box only to see a powerful effort deflect wide.

At the other end, the Taylor, Smith and Duke-McKenna continued to look bright without testing Harrison.

Just seconds before the break, though, Salop had a glorious chance to break the deadlock.

Clucas delivered a pinpoint corner which Boyle met powerfully in the air. But his header whistle just over the bar.

Town were forced into a change shortly after the re-start with Toto Nsiala replacing Stubbs.

Salop then picked up another knock at the back with Anderson replaced by Luca Hoole.

The second half had been uneventful.

But in the 65th minute, the host got themselves ahead when Bryn Morris played a clever ball forward.

And Muldoon then did well to collect the ball before producing an excellent finish that saw him lift the ball over Harrison and into the net.

Salop immediately went in search of an equaliser.

Hoole saw a dangerous cross cleared. McDermott then powered a volley over from just inside the box.

But with his team needing more speak, Appleton opted to make a triple change with Chuks Aneke, John Marquis and George Lloyd all entering the fray.

The hosts went on to win it though when McAleny drilled in from the edge of the box in the 88th minute.
