Match Report
Goals from Isaac England and George Lloyd saw Shrewsbury secure a 2-0 friendly win at Leamington.
Town's pre-season campaign began on Wednesday when Michael Appleton's side secured a 1-0 victory at Stoke in a match played behind closed doors.
And Salop also enjoyed a victory in their first public outing of the summer - in a friendly organised as part of the deal that saw Town sign Callum Stewart from Leamington back in January.
In soaring temperatures, Salop controlled proceedings throughout with academy graduate England giving them a 1-0 lead at the break.
Goalkeeper Toby Savin did save a second-half penalty from Owen Farmer for the hosts.
Lloyd then secured the win with an excellent header late on.
REPORT:
Boss Appleton opted to field two teams in Warwickshire – ensuring all the players who travelled got 45 minutes under their belt.
The first half XI saw Toby Savin start in goal with Will Boyle, Reuben Falding and Sam Stubbs making up the back three.
Luca Hoole and George Nurse got the nod at wing-back with Harrison Biggins sitting in the middle of the park alongside Taylor Perry and England.
Up front, John Marquis was partnered by Stewart.
Despite temperatures approaching 30 degrees, Town started brightly at the Your Co-op Community Stadium.
Just two minutes in, a ball over the top almost released Stewart, but the Leamington goalkeeper was quick off his line to gather before the forward could pounce.
Then a superb pass from Marquis sent Hoole surging down the right flank.
His low cross found England, who cut the ball back intelligently for Stewart - only for the striker to fire over the bar from a promising position.
Salop continued to press with Boyle glancing a header wide from a corner.
Hoole then nearly slipped in Perry, but once more the Leamington keeper reacted smartly, racing out to smother the danger.
Leamington had their first big chance on the half-hour when Town sloppily gave the ball away at the back.
And that led to a chance for Will Shorrock, who fired over the bar when he should have done better.
To compound Shorrock's misery, Salop went straight up the other end and opened the scoring.
Marquis did really well to cushion the ball down for England in the box. And he then produced a lovely finish to find the bottom corner.
Town’s second half team saw them remain in a 3-5-2 formation – with Savin the only player to play 90 minutes.
After the interval, Joe Morris, Toto Nsiala and Karsten Cairns made up the back three with Jack Loughran at right wing-back and Mal Benning on the left.
Sam Clucas, Tom Sang and Will Gray made up the midfield three with George Lloyd partnering Ricardo Dinanga up top.
And Lloyd came agonisingly close to doubling Town’s lead just after the restart.
Loughran and Dinanga combined smartly down the right before delivering a teasing ball into the box.
And Lloyd cleverly flicked it towards goal, only to see his effort blocked by a defender.
Town made a change in the 65th minute with youngster Haydn Lewis replacing Dinanga.
The move saw Loughran move up front with Lewis at wing-back.
Leamington were controversially awarded a penalty in the 77th minute when Nsiala was judged to have fouled Farmer in the box.
It looked a harsh decision.
But it didn't matter too much with Savin making a smart stop to deny Farmer from 12 yards.
Shrewsbury doubled their lead in the 83rd minute - Lloyd producing a smart header to turn home a corner, thus securing our second win in pre-season.
