Town picked up a draw at home to Premier League Burnley after an outstanding display.

John Marquis put Salop ahead in the seventh minute after a brilliant team press.

Burnley then scored two set pieces courtesy of Marcus Edwards shortly after the break.

But after a spirited performance, Town got their reward when Will Boyle headed home an equaliser with the last action of the game.

Team news:

Manchester United youngster Elyh Harrison started in net as summer signings Will Boyle, Tom Anderson and Sam Stubbs lined up together in a back three for the first time.

Luca Hoole and George Nurse set up on the right and left flanks respectively, while Sam Clucas anchored the midfield.

Harrison Biggins and Alex Gilliead were ahead of Clucas.

John Marquis and latest recruit Anthony Scully started as the front two.

The visitors brought a host of talent to the Croud Meadow, with Axel Tuanzebe, Edwards, Josh Cullen Ashley Barnes in their starting XI.

Report:

It was Town who got off to a lightning-fast start at the Meadow and they found themselves ahead after just seven minutes.

A well-executed press reaped rewards when Biggins' strong tackle dispossessed the Clarets.

The loose ball fell to Marquis, who was on hand to tap home from close range.

Burnley looked to respond as a clever ball was played through to Jaydon Banel; however, Harrison got off his line incredibly quickly to clear the ball away from danger.

On the half-hour mark, Hoole collected a cross-field ball with an exceptional bit of skill, beating his man in the process.

He then delivered a dangerous ball across the face of goal, which, unfortunately, went unchallenged.

It took until the 37th minute for Burnley to have their first real chance of the game as Edwards drove through the middle, pulling off a quick one-two with Ashley Barnes, but Edwards couldn't sort his feet out and the chance went begging.

Harrison was then called into action once again, making a brilliant save at point-blank range to keep the visitors at bay.

Burnley weren't to be kept out for long as - with 52 minutes on the clock - Edwards curled a dangerous free-kick into the right-hand side of the goal, leaving Toby Savin, who had replaced Harrison at half-time, with no chance.

In what was a period of dominance for the Clarets, Edwards was again causing problems.

However, his next effort was well saved by Savin, who got down quickly to palm away the effort.

Unfortunately, from the resulting corner, Burnley were awarded a harsh penalty after Biggins was judged to have dragged Joe Worrall to the floor.

Edwards stepped up and smashed the spot-kick into the top corner.

Town worked their way back into the game and controlled the last 10 minutes.

Chances for John Marquis and Callum Stewart came and went before Salop eventually got their equaliser.

Gilliead curled in a corner kick and Boyle rose highest to powerfully head home with the last action of the game.
