Matthew Cox joins Salop!

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce the loan signing of goalkeeper Matthew Cox from Brentford.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper has penned a deal until the end of the season.

Matt spent time at Chelsea and AFC Wimbledon before joining the Bees in 2021.

After graduating to the senior side a year later, the London-born keeper joined Bristol Rovers on loan in League One, featuring 34 times in all competitions.

A loan spell at Crawley followed this time last year and he's spent the first half of this season with Brentford's first team.

Boss Michael Appleton said: "Matt is someone we’ve been aware of for a while.

"He’s got a great pedigree and a strong background in terms of footballing education. He’s good with his feet, has impressive distribution and we’re excited to bring him in.

"He is going to be able to challenge Will for a place in the starting 11, which is healthy for both players and the squad."
