Post Northampton | Michael Appleton
Michael Appleton met with the media following Shrewsbury's EFL Trophy clash at Northampton.
It was a night of what should have been for Town - with the game ultimately ending in a 2-1 defeat.
But Appleton's men could have scored five or six with John Marquis twice denied by Lee Burge while the keeper also produced a brilliant stop to keep out an effort from Luca Hoole.
On top of that, George Lloyd hit the post while Anthony Scully fired agonisingly wide. Hoole was also unfortunate to see a defender block a goal-bound strike from point-blank range.
Tommy McDermott did get on the scoresheet for Town. But that strike was sandwiched between efforts from Kamamrai Swyer and Conor McCarthy - ensuring it was the hosts who were victorious on the night.
Speaking to the press, Appleton expressed his disappointment at Town's lack of cutting edge - with that ultimately costing them their place in the comptition.
But the boss said his side will take the positives from the performance into Saturday's game at home to Newport.
