Pre-Fleetwood | Michael Appleton

Pre-Fleetwood | Michael Appleton

Shrewsbury’s trip to Fleetwood comes with a unique subplot for head coach Michael Appleton - he’ll be going up against his own son in the opposition dugout.

Lewis Appleton has spent the past few years as Fleetwood’s first-team analyst and now works under head coach Pete Wild at Highbury.

But tomorrow won’t be the first time the pair have faced each other professionally. They’ve met twice before, with Michael winning one and the other match ending in a draw.

Speaking ahead of the game, the Town boss admitted he is keen to extend that unbeaten run to three when the family rivalry resumes on the Fylde coast.

Appleton also provided a positive update on midfielder Taylor Perry, who has returned to training after missing the Newport win through illness.

And he revealed both Chuks Aneke and George Lloyd are edging closer to full fitness as they continue their recovery.
