Report | Albrighton 0-8 Shrews Women
Shrewsbury Town Women kicked off their FA Cup campaign with a thumping 8-0 win over Albrighton last weekend.
Town opened the scoring after just 10 minutes when, following a long throw, Vikki Owen curled a fantastic effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Katie Doster made it two when she headed home from a Maddie Jones cross, and it was three not long after when Jeorgia Carr reacted quickest to slot home after Doster’s effort was saved.
Carr had her second and Town’s fourth with five minutes of the first half remaining. Jess Wallace put in a deep cross which Carr collected before smashing the ball into the back of the net.
There was still time for a fifth before the break as Sophie Woodward raced down the left wing and spectacularly looped the ball over the Albrighton goalkeeper and into the far corner.
Salop flew out of the blocks at the start of the second half, extending their lead within a few minutes of the restart.
This time, it was Zoe Griffiths’ turn to get on the scoresheet and she converted a low ball across the face of goal.
A quiet second period followed, and it took until the final 10 minutes of the match for Town’s seventh and eighth goals.
Jones latched onto a loose defensive header, accelerated past her marker and bent her effort into the far corner with aplomb.
The scoring was rounded off by an own goal as Woodward’s cross hit a defender in the final moments.
Shrews Women have been drawn away at Kidderminster Harriers Women in the next round, with the game taking place on Sunday, October 5.
