Report | Mansfield 2-4 Under-18s
Shrewsbury Town Under-18s claimed a significant 2-4 away victory over Mansfield on Saturday, marking their fourth consecutive league win!
The early stages of the first half were evenly contested. Jay Snook saw his effort on goal cleared off the line, while Dan Stanita was called into action at the other end to keep the score level.
The breakthrough came in the 25th minute, when Mansfield opened the scoring from a scrappy corner, the ball just crossing the line.
Despite this setback, the young Shrews showed resilience. Will Hardeman came close with a header that hit the woodwork before Haydn Lewis calmly slotted home his first chance to bring Shrewsbury level before the break.
The second half saw our under-18s start fiercely. Jeval Thompson-McKenzie had a shot saved in the first three minutes, which was followed by Hardeman heading one home from a corner to double their lead.
Momentum remained with Salop as, three minutes after Hardeman’s goal, Snook scored to make it 1-3 within the first seven minutes of the second half.
Mansfield drew closer by scoring from a corner in the 59th minute, a result of poor communication in the box.
Fortunately, this didn’t negatively impact how Shrewsbury played, as Lewis scored his second with a half-volley in the box to make the final score 2-4, marking four wins in a row for Sean McAllister’s team.
Shrewsbury now face Oldham Athletic on November 15th, aiming to extend their winning streak.
