Report | Under-18s 1-3 Oldham
Shrewsbury Town Under-18s were knocked out of the Youth Alliance Cup by Oldham on Saturday.
Salop started brightest and could've taken a fourth-minute lead when Jeval Thompson-McKenzie struck the woodwork after being played through on goal.
However, despite Town's strong start, Oldham scored from their first opportunity, as their winger squared the ball across the six-yard box for their striker to finish and give Oldham a 0-1 lead.
Shrewsbury responded with a headed chance that was saved, but Oldham eventually doubled their lead following miscommunication among the Shrewsbury defence from a free kick.
The final big chance before half-time came from Simba Nyamwanza, who caught the keeper in no man's land; however, his shot was cleared off the line, ensuring Oldham went into the break leading 2-0.
Shrewsbury began the second half brightly, with substitute Arnold Manseya attempting a shot from distance that narrowly cleared the bar.
However, Oldham responded by scoring their third and final goal in the 70th minute, extending their lead to 0-3.
Manseya scored a late consolation for Shrewsbury, curling a shot from the edge of the box to make it 1-3.
But any hope of a comeback was quickly ended when Kaysha Kameni received a red card for dissent.
This defeat ends October's winning streak for our under-18s, who will be eager to bounce back against Wrexham in the PDL Cup on Tuesday night.
