Report | Under-18s 3-3 Morecambe
Shrewsbury Town Under-18s climbed to third in the EFL Youth Alliance League with a draw against Morecambe on Saturday.
Salop started brightly in their search to add to their five consecutive wins, taking the lead in the 12th minute.
Harry Fallon opened the scoring for Town, finishing from the wing thanks to an inch-perfect pass from Jayden Abbey, who played Fallon in from deep to beat the offside trap.
However, the visitors drew level when a mistimed challenge in the box by Jayden Valentine in the 24th minute was penalised.
Morecambe’s No. 10 stepped up to convert from the penalty spot and draw the sides level.
Just six minutes later, Haydn Lewis made the most of a soft clearance to continue his clinical form in front of goal - smashing home his fourth goal in three games.
This was the last of the first-half action, but Morecambe were quick to respond in the second half.
The Shrimps equalised just eight minutes after the interval with a deflected effort that wrong-footed Town goalkeeper Tom Hill.
Substitute Simba Nyamwanza reacted swiftly to this setback, with his first attempt deflected out for a corner. From the resulting corner, Valentine delivered the ball perfectly to Luke Edwards, who finished expertly to regain the lead just two minutes after Morecambe's equaliser.
Town continued to create chances but were unable to capitalise.
And they would be made to pay for not extending their lead when, in the 83rd minute, a ball over the top was met by a scuffed half-volley by the visitors’ striker. However, it again wrong-footed Hill, and the match was levelled at 3-3.
The under-18s' next game sees them travel to Port Vale as they look to secure their sixth win in seven and close the three-point gap to top spot.
