Report | Under-18s 4-2 Oldham

Shrewsbury Town Under-18s secured their fifth consecutive league win with a convincing 4-2 win over Oldham Athletic at Shrewsbury Sports Village on Saturday.

Salop started fastest with Haydn Lewis firing narrowly wide in the fourth minute.

However, this spurred the visitors on and they opened the scoring in the 13th minute as their number 10 latched on to a loose ball and smashed home from the edge of the box.

After falling behind, Town once again showed great courage, with Jay Snook producing a lovely turn to beat his defender and slot home from the centre of the box to equalise just seven minutes later.

They continued to push and eventually got the reward they deserved as Snook scored his second goal on the stroke of half-time, giving Shrewsbury a one-goal lead at the break.

The second period began just as well as the first had ended, with Lewis getting his third goal in two games - sending an absolute rocket home from outside the box after less than 60 seconds.

Fresh off his first appearance in the first team squad last Tuesday night, goalkeeper Tom Hill made a great save in the 56th minute to maintain our two-goal lead for now.

However, due to a scrappy corner, Oldham got their second goal in the 70th minute, thus closing the gap and potentially setting up a nervy finale.

Fortunately for Town, breathing room was restored when Will Hardeman headed home from a corner in the 85th minute.

This victory means it’s now five league wins in a row for the under-18s. They next face Morecambe at home, hoping to keep their winning form going!
