Shrewsbury Town Joins Forces with Brain Tumour Support to Help Local Families

Shrewsbury Town Football Club is proud to announce a new partnership with Brain Tumour Support, bringing vital help and hope to people across Shropshire who are affected by brain tumours.

Beginning this year, quarterly support group meetings will take place at the Croud Meadow.

The group will use an office within the stadium for their meetings, providing a private and welcoming space for patients, carers, and families to come together, share experiences, and access guidance from specialists.

This initiative builds on the success of two previous meetings held at the club prior to 2026, which received positive feedback from attendees and highlighted the need for a regular, dedicated venue.

The next meeting will take place on Monday, March 9, from 11am to 1pm.

This partnership also reflects the personal commitment of senior safeguarding manager, John Rhodes, whose own family has been affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.

John’s experience has highlighted the importance of accessible support for those facing similar challenges, and his dedication has been a driving force behind bringing this initiative to the Croud Meadow.

John said: "This partnership is deeply personal to me. My family has experienced the impact of a brain tumour diagnosis, and I know how vital it is to have support close to home.

"By working with Brain Tumour Support, we’re creating a space where people can find comfort, share experiences, and know they’re not alone. I’m proud that our club is stepping up to make a real difference in the lives of local families."

Liam Dooley, CEO of Shrewsbury Town FC, said: "John’s story really brought home the importance of this initiative.

"His passion and determination have inspired us all, and we’re proud to stand alongside him and Brain Tumour Support to make a real difference.

"At Shrewsbury Town, we want to be there for our community in every way we can."

Bridget Dowty, Communications Lead at Brain Tumour Support, said: "We’re delighted to partner with Shrewsbury Town FC to bring this vital service to the heart of the community.

"Having a regular meeting space at Croud Meadow means people affected by brain tumours can come together, share experiences, and access the support they need in a safe and welcoming environment.

"This collaboration will make a real difference to families across Shropshire."
