Shrewsbury Town Relaunches Esports Division as Part of Digital Strategy
Shrewsbury Town is pleased to announce the official relaunch of its esports division under the new name Shrews Esports.
Our new esports team is another step forward in our ongoing efforts to improve the club's digital strategy and engage with more young supporters.
Shrews Esports will field a top-tier EAFC 11v11 Pro Clubs team, a competitive EAFC 1v1 squad, and will champion initiatives centred around grassroots development, inclusion and education.
The first action involving Shrews Esports will see a squad of 11 players participate in the Virtial Pro Gaming Pro Series which is taking place this Saturday.
The competition will feature clubs from across the EFL and Europe, underlining the growing prominence of esports within professional football. It will take place at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough stadium.
With esports playing an increasingly central role in the lives of young fans, Shrews Esports offers fans the opportunity to train and compete in a structured environment - while also fostering essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and discipline.
Shrewsbury Town FC has partnered with sports organisation Club Connect to oversee the growth of Shrews Esports.
Ryan Sparrowhawk, from Club Connect, said: "We’re thrilled to be working with Shrewsbury Town on this landmark project.
"Shrews Esports will be a model for how traditional sports clubs can authentically engage with gaming culture while investing in youth, education, and community.”
Fans can expect more announcements in the coming weeks, including trials for grassroots players, community events, streaming content, and exclusive merchandise drops.
