Shrewsbury Town secure Kev Berkoe on deadline day

Shrewsbury Town have completed the signing of Kevin Berkoe on deadline day, with the defender joining the club from Salford for an undisclosed fee.

The former Chelsea and Wolves wing-back arrives at the Croud Meadow after spending four years at The Peninsula Stadium.

Kevin, who can play on both the left and right, becomes the first signing of the Gavin Cowan era and could make his debut at Colchester on Saturday.

Speaking on the signing, Gavin said: "We've come in at a really late stage, but we looked at the squad and felt we had to balance it out.

"The timing of the window closing means we are not in a position to make a flurry of signings.

"But we felt it was important to invest in the group and add the balance that is required.

"Mal Benning has come back into the reckoning which really helps that side of the pitch.

"Now Kev has joined us to offer some versatility on both sides."
