Shrewsbury Town snap up Tommy McDermott on loan from Burnley
Shrewsbury Town are delighted to welcome Tommy McDermott, who joins on loan from Premier League Burnley.
The gifted midfielder, who will wear the number seven shirt, trained with his new teammates earlier today and is in contention for tomorrow’s Carabao Cup tie away at Grimsby.
Manchester-born McDermott began his career in Port Vale’s youth system and made his senior debut for the Valiants at just 17.
His potential quickly caught the eye of Burnley, who secured his signature and handed him a new, improved, contract last year.
Director of football Micky Moore said: "Tommy is a talented young player who gives us something different in the middle of the park.
"There has been a lot of interest in him this summer so I'd like to thank Burnley for trusting us with his development.
"We look forward to seeing him grow over the season."
As a club unveiled McDermott on social media with a James Bond–inspired video - an idea from 13-year-old Town supporter Archie Hopkinson.
Archie’s concept came via a competition run by our sponsors Croud during the Shrewsbury Town Open Day, inviting young fans to pitch ideas for our next signing announcement.
Archie suggested a Hollywood blockbuster theme, with James Bond, Top Gun or Austin Powers as possible inspirations.
And with McDermott taking the iconic number seven, it was only fitting we chose Shrewsbury's new 007.
