Michael Golding joins Shrewsbury Town on loan

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce the signing of Michael Golding from Sky Bet League One side Leicester City on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old midfielder becomes the club's tenth incoming of the transfer window.

He began his career with AFC Wimbledon before making the move to Chelsea in 2018.

Michael spent six years with the London club, making his first professional appearance in their 4-0 FA Cup third-round win against Preston North End in 2023.

The youngster joined Leicester in the summer of 2024 and broke into the first team, appearing in the Premier League on one occasion. 

Golding has also played for the Republic of Ireland at U16 level before going on to represent England from the U16's to the U19S.

He captained the Three Lions during their 2023 UEFA European U17 Championship campaign, a tournament that included the likes of Lamine Yamal, Miles Lewis-Skelly and Pau Cabarsi.

On the arrival of the attacking midfielder, manager Gavin Cowan said: "We're really excited to be welcoming Michael with us. We're really appreciative to Leicester of how accommodating they have been.

"He's young, obviously unproven, but one that we think has got great pedigree. He has got the attributes that we haven't got in the group at the moment.

"It's been one where he's been on the radar for a while. He's a young guy that needs to reignite his career. And he sees this as a perfect platform, so he'll be a really good addition."

Michael will wear the number 20 during his time in Shropshire.
