Shrewsbury Town snap up Lino Sousa on loan from Aston Villa

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce the loan signing of Lino Sousa from Aston Villa – our second addition of the day.

The 21-year-old arrives at the Croud Meadow with a wealth of experience despite his young age, having already featured in the Championship and League One.

Born in Lisbon, Sousa moved to England at the age of eight and began his footballing journey with West Brom.

He then joined Premier League giants Arsenal in 2022 before making the move to Villa in 2024.

Since then, Sousa has continued to gain valuable senior experience, including a spell with Bristol Rovers where he made 25 league appearances.

He has also represented England throughout the youth ranks, earning international caps from Under-15 level through to the Under-19s.

Manager Gavin Cowan said: “Lino is a young man with huge potential.

“He has had a couple of loans and – like Kian McMahon-Brown – he is a player who is very highly thought of at his parent club.

“We want to give him that platform that will really allow him to kick on.

“He can play both sides, at left wing-back and on the right.

“He gives us a really balance and adds to that competition for places.”
