Best wishes to our departing academy players

Shrewsbury Town can confirm seven academy players will leave the club this summer following the expiration of their contracts.

Among those departing is Simba Nyamwanza, who made history in November 2023 when he became the club's youngest-ever first-team player after making his debut in the EFL Trophy.

Arnold Manseya, Jayden Valentine, William Hardeman, Haydn Lewis, Leon Hughes and John Junior Male will also move on as they embark on the next chapter of their careers.

“Will, Simba, Arnold, JJ, Leon, Jayden and Haydn have been outstanding throughout their time with us.

“They each joined the academy between the under-11 and under-14 age groups and have enjoyed an incredible journey, winning trophies, developing as footballers and, more importantly, growing as young people.

“We have been hugely impressed by the character and maturity they have shown since being informed of the academy and club's decision.

“They have continued to train with real professionalism, remained committed to their development and played an important role in winning the league and reaching the subsequent national finals.

“Unfortunately, this is one of the toughest parts of football, and we are unable to offer professional contracts to every player.

“However, we firmly believe we have given them the best possible platform to succeed, whether that is within the game or in another career.

“We will continue to support each of them as they take their next steps, and they'll always remain part of our academy family.

“It's something we're incredibly proud of that so many of our former players have gone on to enjoy successful careers, both on and off the pitch, including as coaches, analysts and strength and conditioning coaches.

“Everyone at Shrewsbury Town wishes the lads every success for the future.

“Their families and everyone connected with the academy should be immensely proud of everything they have achieved during their time with us."
