Match Report | Shrewsbury 1-4 West Brom

Shrewsbury Town continued their pre-season preparations by taking on West Brom at the Croud Meadow.

A brace from Jimmy-Jay Morgan as well as goals from Harry Whitwell and Aune Heggebo saw the Championship side run out 4-1 winners.

Isaac Fletcher netted Town's goal on what was an important work out for Gavin Cowan's side.

With the season getting closer, boss Cowan opted for a 3-4-1-2 formation for the visit of Championship Albion.

Sam Proctor started in goal with Isaac Lee, Will Boyle and Josh Ruffels making up the back three.

Byron Pendleton started at right wing-back with Tom Sang and Will Gray in the middle and Kevin Berkoe on the left.

Isaac Fletcher operated in the number 10 role with George Lloyd and Joe Gbode up front.

As you'd expect against a Championship side, Albion dominated possession in the early stages and consistently looked to test Proctor from distance.

Alex Mowatt tried his luck from the edge of the box before Jimmy Jay Morgan saw an effort from 20 yards crash against the post.

Those efforts, though, proved to be a warning of what was to come with Harry Whitwell curling in a lovely effort in a the 17th minute.

Town looked to find a way back with Fletcher seeing a shot from just inside the area blocked.

But midway through the half Albion got a second when an unfortunate Pendleton slip allowed Jay Morgan to race through on goal and calmly lift the ball over Proctor and into the net.

Salop came a whisker away from pulling a goal back just past the half hour mark.

Gbode and Pendleton combined brilliantly down the right side to find Fletcher who saw a goal-bound shot blocked. The ball then broke kindly for Berkoe who fired across goal but agonisingly past the post.

Just a few minutes later, though, Salop did have one back.

Gbode did really well to send Sang charging into the box. And he hit the byline before sending in a low cross which Fletcher cooly converted.

Just before the break though, Albion got a third when Chris Mepham's flick on was turned in at the back post by Morgan.

Town made three changes at the break with Will Brook, Sam Stubbs and Arkell Jude-Boyd replacing Proctor, Lee and Pendleton.

Brook was immediately called into action - making a smart stop to keep out a Morgan strike.

It was Town, though, who created the game's next big chance with Gbode heading over from a corner just past the hour mark.

Ousmane Diakite fired another warning in the 75th minute when he rattled the crossbar from 20 yards.

But seconds later, Albion did find a fourth when Morgan stood up a cross which Aune Heggebo nodded home.
