Shrewsbury Town snap up powerful striker Josh Davison

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce the signing of striker Josh Davison on a two-year deal.

Salop have beaten off competition from a host of clubs to secure the services of the powerful forward, who arrives at the club ahead of pre-season starting next week.

Davison began his career with Peterborough before spending three years at Charlton Athletic.

He then went on to enjoy a hugely successful spell with AFC Wimbledon and last season scored against Town while a Tranmere Rovers player.

Josh has become our third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Arkell Jude-Boyd and Isaac Fletcher.

Defenders Josh Ruffels and Luca Hoole have also committed their futures to the club by signing new contracts.

On the arrival of Josh, manager Gavin Cowan said: “He's a really good age. He's got plenty of endeavour, pace and power.

“Now it's about helping him get back to scoring goals, which is something we're confident he'll do with us.

“We played against him a couple of times last season. In that first game against Tranmere, he really showed a lot of the qualities we're looking for.

“And we’re pleased to be able to bring him in ahead of the players reporting for pre-season training next week.

“As I've said before, we want players who genuinely want to be at the football club.

“Josh turned down a number of offers from other clubs because he was really keen to come here.

“He didn't want pre-season to drag on – he wanted to get in, hit the ground running and start with the lads.

“We're really excited to have him on board.

“Getting him in before pre-season was important to us, but it was equally important to him.

“He's chosen us ahead of other clubs and has been desperate to get into the building.

“Even over the last couple of days, while sorting his medical around family commitments, he's been really proactive and on the front foot.

“That's a really good sign of what's to come.”
