Shrewsbury Town improve accessibility at Croud Meadow

Shrewsbury Town has upgraded all 10 accessible toilets at Croud Meadow to make them fully stoma-friendly, while a new portable wheelchair ramp has made the club’s FanZone fully accessible.

The improvements form part of the club’s ongoing work to enhance accessibility and ensure a welcoming matchday experience for all supporters.

It means the club is one of a small number nationwide to offer stoma-friendly facilities across all of their accessible toilets.

The project has also seen Shrewsbury establish partnerships with national charity Colostomy UK and Bins for Boys, an initiative run by the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

Colostomy UK provides information, support and advocacy for people living with a stoma, while Bins for Boys campaigns for male hygiene bins in public spaces.

The organisations have both donated the signage for the upgraded facilities.

“It’s fantastic to see Shrewsbury Town taking this step. For supporters living with a stoma, having access to the right facilities can make all the difference on matchday.

"These upgrades mean people can come to the stadium with confidence, focus on the football, and feel properly included. It’s a really positive move that shows the club’s commitment to making the game accessible for everyone.”

Naomi Atkin, CEO at Lingen Davies Cancer Support, said:

"Incontinence can be a life-altering side effect of cancer and cancer treatment for many men following treatment for bowel or prostate cancer, so we're delighted that Shrewsbury Town Football Club has taken this monumental step to provide an accessible and hygienic way for football fans to dispose of pads, pouches, stomas, catheters, colostomy or ileostomy bags.

The Club's commitment to our Bins For Boys campaign will make a huge difference for local men living with and beyond cancer, giving them the confidence they need to live their lives to the full.

"A previous lack of awareness has left many men feeling uncomfortable with the idea of leaving the comfort of their home, but with the support we receive from public venues and organisations like Shrewsbury Town, we can ensure everyone feels confident and comfortable when they're out and about."

In addition to these improvements, the FanZone at the Croud Meadow is now fully accessible following the purchase of a new portable wheelchair ramp.

This ensures that supporters of all abilities can enjoy the full matchday atmosphere, take part in activities, and feel part of the excitement from the moment they arrive.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the outstanding backing of the Super Blues.
