Report | Shrewsbury Town under-18s secure 3-1 win over Oxford.

Shrewsbury Town under-18s made it two wins from two in the U18s PDL Cup, running out 3-1 winners against Oxford.

Goals from Harry Fallon, Jack Houlston and an own goal gave Shrewsbury a comfortable 3-0 lead before oxford grabbed a late consolation.

The young Salop side came out of the blocks quickly and took the lead with three minutes on the clock. Fallon robbed the Oxford centre-back of the ball before running clear and firing across the goal into the far corner.

Oxford had a chance to equalise, a long diagonal ball over the top had the striker bearing down on goal, however Tom Hill came off his line quickly to narrow the angle and forced the shot wide.

Kaysha Kameni then had the next chance, the Oxford goalkeeper making a good save at his near post following a well weighted through ball by Hugo Aiston.

It wasn’t long however before Town doubled their lead.

Finlay Tait found the ball in the wide area and went past his man before finding a low cross which the Oxford centre-back directed towards his own goal and wrong footed the goalkeeper.

Kameni, Tait and Alfie Rose all had chances to extend the lead further in the first half whilst Hill did well to dive on to a loose ball that was scrambling around in the six yard box following an Oxford corner.

Oxford had a great chance to half the deficit following the restart with Hill making a smart save low at his near post.

That seemed to be the warning Shrewsbury needed as from the resulting corner, they countered quickly with Rose able to find Fallon once again in behind the back line. Unfortunately this time the Oxford goalkeeper was able to match his effort and made the save low to his right.

As the hour mark approached Shrewsbury did extend their lead and in some fashion.

After good work from Jayden Rattray and Jack Donnelly, the ball was cut back to Jack Houlston who took a touch, steadied himself and unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner from the edge of the box making it two goals in as many games for him.

Soon after Kameni really should have made it four.

Nyran Chaffatt sent Fallon away down the right, his cutback found Rattray arriving in the box, his initial shot was parried straight to the feet of Kameni but he could only fire over.

As we entered the final quarter of the game, Oxford did pull one back. A quick counter attack that Shrewsbury should have stopped at source, saw the Oxford attacker bearing down on goal.

Shaw recovered however the Oxford man was able to chop inside and cooly slot the ball past Hill who will be frustrated not to have kept a clean sheet.

Final Result : Shrewsbury Town 3 - 1 Oxford United

The win will sees Town go into a winner takes all final group game against Swansea, who have also won their opening two fixtures, with only the group winner heading into the knockout stages.

The fixture is due to take place at Lilleshall on the November 7.
