140 years in the making | Shrewsbury Town launch new home kit
Club News
One hundred and forty years ago, a group of Shropshire’s most passionate football enthusiasts – representing several of the county’s early amateur clubs – made their way down Wyle Cop and into the Lion Hotel.
What began as a conversation over a few pints would spark something far greater: the creation of a football club that would come to represent not only the town of Shrewsbury, but the whole of Shropshire.
Later that year, the newly formed Shrewsbury Town Football Club took to the field for the first time, wearing navy and white.
Now, as we celebrate our 140th anniversary, we return to the colours that first shaped our identity.
The 2026/27 home shirt pays tribute to the pioneers whose vision and ambition set this football club in motion all those years ago.
Designed by Oxen in collaboration with club staff, the shirt features a deep navy base inspired by Salop’s earliest kit, reconnecting the modern-day club with its historic roots.
A retro club crest provides a further nod to our proud past, creating a shirt that honours the generations who have helped shape Shrewsbury Town.
From players and staff to supporters and volunteers, this shirt represents everyone who has played their part in our story.
Much has changed in football since 1886, but the values, pride and sense of community that define Shrewsbury Town remain as strong as ever.
This is more than a football shirt. It is a celebration of 140 years of history, heritage and belonging.

A message for supporters planning to visit the club shop this weekend:
Due to the Light Infantry Reunion taking place at the Croud Meadow, a large section of the stadium car park will be reserved for event attendees.
As a result, supporters visiting the club shop are asked to enter the stadium grounds via the side gate (used as the exit on matchdays) and follow the road around the back of the stadium to access the shop entrance.
When leaving, supporters should exit the stadium using the same route.
We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
The club shop is open Friday through to Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
